About the 09/09/09 Festival – The Free Indie Film Fest
Getting involved
Whether you’re a film maker, an artist (music or hand created) or whatever, you can become involved in the Festival. Simply join a local crew and get your film made. The films all require one feature, some sort of reference to the numbers 090909 or code 09/09/09 to commemorate the event.
We’re not asking for you to make a film revolving around the numbers 09/09/09. Just a reference somewhere, no matter how significant or insignificant we just want you to show us you remember to place it somewhere, somehow…
The idea is that although the films will be made “Guerrilla” style, they will all be professionally created. We’re not asking for aspiring film makers to assemble crews of hundreds, but appointing people to take up roles such as D.O.P.’s (Directors of Photography), Director, Writers, producers, ADs, Editors etc. Approach the project like you’re making a film for a significant audience. Remember this could be your chance at a big break in showcasing your work.
Storylines are within your hands, and also if you wish to largely improvise your tale, go ahead. We aren’t afraid to shy away from any subject matter, but it has to fit a story… We’re not looking to feature brutality or pornography for the sake of it.
Basically we’re encouraging you to guerrilla your feature. Get permission from friends, family etc. to borrow their homes or businesses for a little filming, ask restaurant managers etc. too. You’ll only need the space for a limited time, get in there, shoot and get out! And if you end up filming in a park or some busy city street, be aware that you’ve got to be fast and efficient. If you’re unsure or are looking for advice, check out this Guerrilla Film Making Crash Course E-Book and hopefully you’ll be a little more enlightened.
A lot of us claim we’re film makers, but aren’t actively making enough films. We’d all love the luxury of a multi-million dollar budget, but at our current financial state, that’s looking unlikely. So break out your Mini-DV cameras, or your HD camcorders… Whatever you have really, and get out there and create!
The best nine films submitted will be featured on the site, streamed and promoted as best we can. We will also attempt to (if they’re professionally presented) help you sell your films on DVD.
Every film will be promoted on the site, regardless of whether they’re narrowed down into the “Top 9″ category. So, irrespective of whether your film makes the cut, it will receive some free publicity.
Submitting Your Film to The Festival
If you do not wish to submit a film, you can help with donations for prizes. There’s a link in the left sidebar, and the proceeds will go towards the promotion of these aspiring film makers’ films.
