Rip Torn, a character actor who starred in Men in Black andThe Insider films, has been charged with breaking into a Connecticut bank and carrying a loaded handgun while intoxicated.State police say the 78-year-old was arrested Friday night after police found him inside the Litchfield Bancorp in Salisbury, where he lives, with a loaded revolver.Torn was taken into custody and booked on charges including burglary and possession of firearm without a permit.He is being held on $100,000 bond and is scheduled for a Monday appearance in Bantam Superior Court.Last year, Torn was given probation in a Connecticut drunken driving case and granted permission to enter an alcohol education program. He also has two previous drunken driving arrests in New York.Torn, whose real name is Elmore Rual Torn, Jr., won an Emmy for The Larry Sanders Show as best supporting actor in a comedy series and has appeared in several episodes of 30 Rock as network head Don Geiss.He's a veteran Broadway actor and has had numerous supporting roles in television and movies including The Cincinnati Kid, Payday and 1983's Cross Creek, for which he garnered a supporting actor Oscar nomination.A spokesman for Torn did not immediately return phone calls Saturday.
