Cameron Converting T2 To 3D
Director James Cameron continues promoting Panasonic 3D television sets in North America, due to hit the market this year, by concentrating on converting his own Lightstorm Entertainment film product into 3D.
“I believe 3D is how we will experience movies, gaming and computing in the near future,” said the Avatar director.
“3D is not something you watch. It’s a reality you feel you could step into.”
There is no agreement yet to bring the format to all standard sets, but a deal to make the viewing experience mainstream is close to completion by the industry group that created Blu-ray.
Lightstorm Entertainment’s 3D conversion of Titanic should be ready by 2011, along with a 3D conversion of Terminator 2: Judgment Day.
T2 3-D: Battle Across Time, an attraction at Universal Studios since 1996, is a ‘mini-sequel’ to Terminator 2: Judgment Day, reuniting director Cameron with Arnold Schwarzenegger as ‘The Terminator’, Linda Hamilton as ‘Sarah Connor’, Edward Furlong as ‘John Connor’ and Robert Patrick as the ‘T-1000.’
The show is presented in two parts, including a pre-show where a ‘Cyberdyne Systems’ company hostess shows guests a video presentation of Cyberdyne’s innovations and the main show, where live performers interact with a 3D film.
“…Flash forward to the future to the chilling, machine-controlled world of the ‘Terminator’. Inside ‘Cyberdyne Systems Corporation’, you’ll witness the unveiling of the new Terminator robots – that is, until you’re caught in the crosshairs of a live, human rebel strike that’ll have you ducking for cover…”
“We are certainly interested in exploring the opportunity to re-release some of Lightstorm’s past films in 3D,” Lightstorm partner Jon Landau said.
“I don’t think it’s too far into the future. We’re pretty far down the road…”
