Summit Entertainment announced today that the home entertainment release of the studio’s The Twilight Saga: New Moon sold just over 4 million DVD units in its first weekend of release. The tally surpasses the first weekend sales of Twilight in 2009 which sold 3.8 million DVD units, and went on to be the top selling DVD title of the year with 9.2 million units sold. The DVD launch of “New Moon” commenced this past Saturday morning with 7,000 retail locations nationwide taking part in events at midnight giving fans their first chance to obtain a DVD of the film.

Promotional firm Click 3X alerted ShockTillYouDrop.com to three commercial interruptions that will be airing on MTV to pimp A Nightmare on Elm Street , in theaters on April 30. Scheduled for release June 30, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse is the ‘romantic-fantasy’ based on author Stephenie Meyer’s “Eclipse” novel and will be the third installment of Summit Entertainment’s The Twilight Saga film series, following 2008′s Twilight (lensed in Portland, Oregon) and 2009′s “New Moon” (lensed in Vancouver).

Directed by David Slade and written by Melissa Rosenberg, Eclipse stars Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, and Taylor Lautner, reprising their roles as ‘Bella Swan’, ‘Edward Cullen’ and ‘Jacob Black’.

Eclipse will be the first Twilight film to be released in IMAX, starring Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, Taylor Lautner, Ashley Greene, Billy Burke, Peter Facinelli, Elizabeth Reaser, Nikki Reed, Kellan Lutz, Jackson Rathbone and Dakota Fanning.
