The British Columbia Film Commission (BCFC) reports that as of mid-April 2010, 24 film projects (5 features, 1 DVD feature, 6 MOWs, 4 Pilots and 8 TV series) are currently shooting in the province.

Notable projects greenlit for spring/summer starts include The Big Year, starring Owen Wilson, Steve Martin and Jack Black, directed by David Frankel (Marley And Me) Planet of the Apes prequel Caesar-Rise of the Apes and The Girl in the Red Riding Hood starring Amanda Seyfried.

Disney-owned Pixar Animation has reported the launch of a new studio facility in Vancouver, BC.

Pixar Canada will produce 20 to 25 minutes of short films annually to be distributed worldwide on the Disney Channel, on the web and in theme parks.

Amir Nasrabadi, Pixar Canada general manager said the company’s goal was to employ 75 people by 2012, moving up to a 20,000 to 25,000 square foot space.

Pixar was purchased in 2006 by the Walt Disney Company for 7.4 billion dollars (US), noted for winning 24 Academy Awards for animated features including Toy Story.

Toy Story 3 in 3D opens June 18.

The Vancouver production facility will deliver their first projects in August….

Director Sylvain White adapts the Vertigo comic about a team of mercenaries who wage war on the CIA after they’re double-crossed in the field and left to die. Clay (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), Jensen (Chris Evans), Roque (Idris Elba), Pooch (Columbus Short), and Cougar (Óscar Jaenada) were on a blacks-ops mission in the Bolivian jungle when rogue CIA agent Max (Jason Patric) hung them out to dry.
