Vexille

Director Fumihiko Sori (PING PONG) helms VEXILLE, a sci-fi anime feature that takes place in the year 2077. Relations between Japan and the rest of the world have deteriorated to the extent that the country has cut off all communication with the other inhabitants of Earth. Vexille is a female commander who leads a team of U.S. special forces, named SWORD, who have been charged with infiltrating Japan to discover the potentially dangerous technological advances the country is making. Their mission, and their discoveries, reveal a new android that could spark chaos if it the Japanese unleash it on the globe. (1 hr. 49 min.)

A Christmas Visitor

For the Boyajian family, Christmas has not been the same since their son was killed in the Gulf War. There has been no reason or desire to celebrate, but George, the father, decides that it’s time to start being a family again. He picks up a lonely hitchhiker who he talks into pretending that he knew his dead son, in order to bring some warmth and humanity back into his house, but both George and his family have their faith and humanity restored in ways that none of them expected.

El Chacotero Sentimental

Cristian Galaz’s THE SENTIMENTAL TEASER is an episode film with three parts. The first section concerns Juan (Daniel Munoz), a student who spends time impersonating John Lennon, and his involvement with his married neighbor Claudia (Lorene Prieto). The middle story involves Carmen (Ximena Rivas), who discovers unpleasant truths about her family when, as an adult, she spies on her sister from a secret hiding space she used as a child. The final portion of the film is about a husband and wife (Pablo Montoya and Tamara Acosta) who, due to their social conditions, have no privacy. At the time of its release, THE SENTIMENTAL TEASER was the most successful film in Chilean history. (88 hr.)

The Greatest

A heartbreaking end to young love is only the beginning in this drama. After teenage Bennett and Rose finally begin a romance after years of furtive glances, Bennett dies in a car accident. His parents, Grace and Allen, struggle to deal with the death of their son, but their attempts at peace are interrupted by Rose’s announcement that she is pregnant. (1 hr. 40 min.)
