Just Messing Around – Shoot First Productions

Simple improvised film, rough premise conjured up beforehand. Played out a number of ways on location (which was considerably smaller than expected). The total work involved totalled two hours, one to roughly plan and arrive and then an hour to shoot, experimenting with how we could shoot and play out the idea.

Light wasn’t our friend though, a sunny day made the light impossible to keep consistent and in addition to that, standing on a cliff edge made moving around and shooting very awkward. Not bad though for something created at zero notice.

We decided we would feature the trailers and production diaries for a local Vancouver project entitled “Condition:Human.”

In the near future, man has begun to address the economic and environmental issues plaguing the early 21st century. Rapid technological advancements have changed life dramatically, especially the creation of advanced humanoid robots who have begun to play an integral part in everyday life. Takumi Kenji, the reclusive CEO of Kenji electronics, and father of all things A.I. has announced the first ever ‘companion’ bots, a model of humanoid who’s interactive capabilities are remarkably natural. As robots continue to evolve their place amongst us must evolve as well, and as it does society carries the responsibility of answering the moral questions that come.

T-Mobile have launched a simple, yet brilliant ad campaign for the benefits of sharing experiences while they happen over mobile (cell phones). Watch as these choreographed dancers help spark off a dancing frenzy!

Another major motion picture that Shoot First Productions had a chance of being involved with (even though our participation was minute). Arguably the most impressive set up I’ve been on in order to act as an extra… We were involved in a scene where a massive field and university were converted to hold tanks, various army related vehicles and artillery and hundreds of people in an evacuation like setup. Simply breath taking. The film, which is released December 12th is certain to be visually amazing, but will it match the original in story?

The Day The Earth Stood Still trailer

Coming out 2009 is of course, The Watchmen. Many people have read the Hugo Award winning comic book, and now the story is coming to life on the big screen. Shoot First Productions had the opportunity to look at the set first hand in Burnaby, British Columbia where they fully re-created several 1970’s New York City blocks to scale and included a bunch of sound stages for effects. We even participated in a couple of scenes. Anyway, check out the film’s trailers. It definitely looks visually impressive, hopefully it will measure up story-wise.
