Well, firstly, your run of the mill “producer” has no singular set of responsibilities. Generally the producer is the person who strings everything together. Many people argue that fact, as producers have gained notorious and exaggerated reputations, but the producer is the glue that binds the production (or show) and ultimately gets it out into the world.
The movie producer, the film producer, the television producer, whatever the title is the person who takes a script, adds on a director (sometimes the writer) and helps gather the people and finances (or financiers) to make the pre-production period, shoot and post-production work. In theory.
Their jobs are often extremely stressful and hard, having to ultimately create and then sell an original (or loosely termed “original”) piece of work. It’s very hard to specifically pinpoint what one producer does over another as depending on their staff they may have a lot more responsibility on their shoulders due to poor help, however, in essence (unless the star or director is more powerful in the industry) ...
